He furthered his education with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 1975, and a Master of Fine Arts from San Jose State University in 1980.

He holds signature memberships with the National Watercolor Society, Missouri Watercolor Society, Watercolor West, Taos Society of American Watercolor, and more.
